What is One UI 9 Beta in 2026: Galaxy S25, Android 17 and who can join
1 September put last year’s flagships on the One UI 9 beta. This piece splits who can enroll, what Beta 1 actually changed, and why AirDrop is an 8.5 leftover.
The first week of September, S25 owners searching “when is One UI 9” want three facts, not the S26 feature dump: whether their phone can enroll, what the first package changed, and whether AirDrop is actually new.
On 1 September 2026 Samsung opened the Android 17 One UI 9 beta to last year’s S25 flagships and two 2025 foldables. The same day a community post said S26 stable is “coming soon.” What follows is only checkable devices, markets and the Beta 1 changelog.
It is one system beta, not one AI package
The enroll list is narrow
SamMobile names six phones: S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7. The S25 Edge is out. The first US wave is factory-unlocked U1 only.
S26 stable is a different line
The S26 series is already on its eighth beta. The 1 September community note only says “coming soon.” There is no checkable SKU day. Do not read S26 “soon” as S25 already shipping stable.
How to enroll this week
-
01
Install Samsung Members first
Sign in with the Samsung account tied to that phone. Find the One UI 9 Beta banner under Notices, accept the terms. The package then appears in Settings → Software update.
-
02
Check whether you are in the first wave
India, South Korea, the UK and the United States are the four named markets. US carrier units and the S25 Edge wait for a later train or stable. Betas can trip banking and two-factor apps; back up a daily driver first.

The public day is still a press window
TechTimes, following the 2025 S25 Android 16 cadence, puts S25 stable One UI 9 in mid-to-late September. Samsung has not written that day. The S22 series and S21 FE are done with major OS upgrades.
What Beta 1 changed — do not read “full Galaxy AI”
| What to check | How it was reported | Is it new? |
|---|---|---|
| Quick Panel / DeX / Notes Tape | S25 Beta 1 changelog (SamMobile / TechTimes) | Yes — in the first package |
| Two-way AirDrop | One UI 8.5 (May 2026), Quick Share + AWDL | No — S25 already has it |
| Smart Switch QR migration | Passwords, passkeys, calls, accessibility, eSIM | Yes — the new cross-platform story |
TechTimes: if you already own an S25, file transfer with an iPhone is not a One UI 9 debut. The new piece is QR migration of the whole iPhone identity.
How to read the edges
- Gemini Intelligence wants 12 GB
- TechTimes wrote that agentic Gemini chains more than 40 apps and needs Gemini Nano v3 plus at least 12 GB of RAM. The S25, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 ship with 12 GB. Older phones may get the skin without that layer.
- Fold 7 also gets a large-screen mandate
- Android 17 (API 37) requires apps that target that level to adapt to large screens; they can no longer opt out. TechTimes said that should cut letterboxing on the inner display. Slabs are not under that rule.
- The S22 stops on the previous tier
- TechTimes, citing earlier reporting, said the S22 series and S21 FE have finished their major-OS promise. Their last step was Android 16 / One UI 8. A-series and tablets are expected in a later 2026 Q4 wave.

The OS calendar can slip; a short sync still fits one page
Beta week fills group chat with “should we update now.” A five-to-fifteen-minute standup still only needs a browser room: frogmeet sends a space code, voice plus a board, then you leave. Phone-browser limits are on the mobile browser note.
Questions worth checking
Does the S25 already have AirDrop?
Yes. TechTimes wrote that two-way transfer among the S25, Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and iPhone, iPad or Mac arrived with One UI 8.5 in May 2026 inside Quick Share. One UI 9’s new cross-platform piece is Smart Switch QR migration.
Can a US carrier phone enroll?
Not in the first wave. TechTimes wrote that the US opener is factory-unlocked U1 only. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile branded units wait for a later beta or stable.
When does S25 stable land?
Samsung has not written a checkable day. TechTimes puts the window in mid-to-late September from last year’s cadence. S26 stable on 1 September was only “coming soon.”
