XREAL Aura 2026: What the Android XR glasses actually are

Project Aura is now Aura. IFA hands-ons meet the official sheet: see-through lenses, a compute puck, and a fall window.

The first week of IFA 2026 brought wide hands-ons of XREAL Aura, the Android XR glasses that spent a year as Project Aura. How-To Geek published on 6 September 2026; TechRadar tried the same unit on the Berlin floor.

This is not a phone-tethered display pair. Official pages now call it XREAL Aura: glasses plus a compute puck, running Android XR with Gemini, aimed at Fall 2026, with a base price no higher than US$1,500 before tax.

What this week’s hands-ons could check

See-through, not camera passthrough

How-To Geek stressed that you still see the people next to you. XREAL’s own page calls this optical see-through, not a video replay of the room.

Prototype software is still rough

The same review saw the Google app crash and an unsteady home gesture. The writer pinned most of that on first-generation Android XR, not on XREAL alone.

How to read the fall window

  1. 01
    Start with the country list

The official FAQ names the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, and a set of European markets. Other countries are an email waitlist.

  2. 02
A deposit is not a locked price

A US$99 reserve becomes US$199 credit. XREAL says final price, configs, and ship dates come closer to launch. Reservations are refundable before you confirm the buy.

  3. 03
The XR app list is still thin

Play Store 2D apps can install. XREAL cites a little over 100 XR-native titles. How-To Geek noted that most everyday social apps still lack a spatial edition.

Who this is for
People who already accept “glasses plus a puck,” want a lighter shape than a Galaxy XR headset, and can wait for fall stock.
What is still not a conclusion
The exact ship week, the shelf price, country batches, and whether Android XR apps fill in before launch day.

XREAL’s own line: not a headset, and not a second screen hung in front of your eyes.

A spatial desk is still not a shared page

Aura is a personal XR workspace. If the job is a short call around one drawing, open a frogmeet room in the browser. You do not need to wait for fall glasses.
